What Roofers Do

A roofer, roofing contractor, or roofing specialist is a skilled tradesperson who professionally specializes in roof repair. Roofers repair, replace, and even install the wooden roofs of residential buildings, using various materials, such as asphalt shingles, gypsum, and felt. They also perform some inspections and are responsible for detecting problems before they become a hazard. There are different types of roofers and it depends on your needs to decide who you would prefer doing your roof.

There are three types of roofing systems – single-ply, double-ply, and multi-ply. Single-ply roofers are made of one sheet of wood that is fixed to another sheet of material and is secured with nails. It is commonly made with paperboard and asphalt shingles. The process of making a single-ply roof is by attaching the first sheet of material on the metal frame with nails, then adding layers of insulation to make the roof material hot and eventually waterproof.

Double-ply roofers are made of two sheets of material that are attached to each other using nails, or metal ties. These roofs are highly durable, but not as strong as the single-ply roof system because the second sheet must be thicker. Many commercial buildings use this type of roofing material because of its strength and durability.

Multi-ply roofing systems are manufactured by stacking several sheets of a membrane roofing material such as asphalt shingles and sheathing, then covering them with fiberglass or metal. Fiberglass shingles are more expensive than metal sheets, although they are designed to last longer. These roofers are used on residential buildings, schools, hospitals, motels, warehouses, storage facilities, industrial buildings, warehouses, shopping malls, government buildings and even private residences. They come in various shapes, sizes, colors and textures.

Contractors can install these roofs on their own or they can hire roofers to do the job for them. Whichever method is chosen, there is a lot of work involved in installing the roof on buildings. Many contractors will quote a standard roofer price so it’s important to understand the scope of work and all the costs associated with the job.

When roofers replace the roof on a residential building, they often restore the existing structure. This allows the owner to have a structurally sound building without having to completely replace the roof and then build the rest of the house from scratch. It is possible to live in an old house with modern conveniences, but older houses need extra attention to detail and a roofer can give buildings the image they want.

There are various types of roofers that can be used to complete this task. Different roofers use different materials and a contractor will determine the materials needed based on the size of the roof and the structure of the building. For example, a roofers might use asphalt shingles if the roof is on a small building and clay tile shingles if the roof is on a large building. These differences in the materials needed make it important for an owner to discuss the job with a roofing contractor. Even though the job may seem simple, it is important to select the right one for the job.

There are many differences between single-ply roofing and multi-ply roofing. Single-ply roofing has a layer of asphalt shingles that is installed on top of the insulation layer beneath the shingles. The installation process takes only a few hours and the finished roof looks professional. Multi-ply roofing consists of a single sheet of material that is wrapped around the insulation. In most cases, roofers will use tar paper underlayment to protect the asphalt shingles and to ensure a quality finish.
